Show some liver love

So, I'm a firm believer in the whole 'garbage in-garbage out' theory. My first port of call is addressing my liver!

According to this blog here, cleansing your liver could save you alot of health problems! Makes sense: your liver sorts out all the rubbish you put in to your system, and if it gets too clogged up with junk, it's going to have some pretty adverse effects on your health! Please excuse my non-scientific terminology.

So here are some simple steps to clean up, and renew the health of your liver. I'm going to try and stick to these throughout my health kick:

1. First thing in the morning, drink hot water with freshly squeezed lemon juice before I put anything else past my lips. This is cleansing.

2. Eat as many fresh vegetables as humanly possible without turning in to a smoothy machine. Especially dark green and leafy. Broccoli is particularly good, you get extra vit C!

3. Up the vitamins by taking a comprehensive multivitamin every day. I'm also going to take a 1500mg Vitamin C suppliment (from Holland and Barrett) but be aware, some peoples systems can't take this much Vit C at once, and may frequent the bathroom more regularly!

4. I'm going to take Echinacea, with every meal. This is supposed to boost the immune system.

5. Milk Thistle suppliments will help to cleanse my liver and I'm going to take this twice a day, morning and evening.

6. I'm going to try and get the 2-3 pints of water you essentially need every day! And I'm going to top this up with green tea twice a day, and nettle tea twice a day, to detox and reduce those nasty free radicals floating round my body.

7. I want to SLEEP as much as I can to boost my immune system, at least 8 hours a day! And if I can squeeze in an extra nap when the baby goes down for one, I will relish it.

8. Gentle exercise to get the blood circulating. Maybe the lateral thigh trainer I've aquired from my dear mum. Or take the baby out for walks or on the bike. Or anything that doesn't drive me to insanity like my Davina work out dvd was starting to do. People should not make rubbish jokes on a dvd designed to be played over and over and over.

So, 8 steps this week to focus on, to get that liver...liver-ing.

Do your thing, hepatic organ, we're counting on you.

Health Wannabe...

Hello World!

Do you ever come across those really healthly healthy types that wear gym clothes, drink green sludge, avoid any sugary substances and are NEVER ill?

I'm not one of them. I'm a sofa-surfer, suffering from a glandular fever relapse, and absolutely addicted to sugar. In my 25 years of life, I have never felt quite so sluggish and poorly as I do right now. I have a very young daughter, a newly established business, an energetic hubby, and a thirst for life. But I'm not getting the best out of it.

Sitting on my oh-so-comfortable sofa I have been researching any possible cure for the nastiness that is glandular fever, and have come across a few tips to boost my health. Apparently, detoxing is good for you, gluten is bad for you, exercise is good for you, caffeine is bad for you....(there are many many more..)

So my cyber-friend whoever you are, I am making a pact, I'm going to do my best to join these 'exercise-holics' and 'gluten-free goddesses' to see if it really does make any difference to my health. Over the next three months, I am sticking to a STRICT gluten-free diet, regularly cleansing my liver, detoxing from my much beloved caffeine, and kicking the sugar-habit.

This diary will describe my activities and findings, my good days and bad days, and I promise above all to be HONEST. Consider this, your 'health tips for dummies' blog.

Join me, or observe me, but please do support me! I appreciate your feedback and comments and hope I can give you a positive report in three months time!

So, in conclusion; I'm going to go from this:

Fact. Wish me luck.
